Saturation

22 - 29 February, at Utrophia Project Space: The High Street

STARTING: WEDNESDAY 22ND FEBRUARY

Saturation (think of a logistic curve seen from above)

1. The Logistic Curve shows us a pattern of growth, from a slow start to a period of exponential growth and finally to a slowing of growth as we reach our carrying capacity. It looks like this graph. – Graphs Aren’t Everything

2. The problem with refrigerators is that once everyone has one the market growth slows to a halt. Only if the population grows will the market grow. Once everyone has what they need you have to create new needs, new thrills. – No Thrills Is The New Thrill

3. The problem with abstraction is that it seems unable to remain abstract for long. As time goes by it starts to be less ‘abstract’ and more like something that is called Abstract. – Some Artists Are Always Seeking New Abstracts

4. The problem with symbols is that they seem unable not to become abstract despite never being called Abstract. Eventually we saturate them with meaning and identification and they collapse under this strain. – Ruined Symbols Can Be Renovated

5. We hide well in our hiding place, cautious not to make a sound or to expose a limb. But we daren’t hide to well for there are always new hiding places... or old ones where no one will think to look again. – Punk That Doesn’t Call It Self Punk

6. Over the course of these days saturation will be our frame. Frames are usually used to present, protect and ultimately make the discussion/work substantive. Our frame will hopefully fail at all those objectives. It will with any luck obscure, undermine and subordinate our encounter. – Saturation Is The Colourfulness Of A Colour Relative To Its Own Brightness
