“Dot to Dot” is a term used to convey a particular event format designed to keep an audience on their toes as they are guided from one
location to the next. Each location functions as a platform for the arts.
Site specific work is encouraged as a richly diverse collection of spaces begin to arise within the marking the route stage. Sites have including, living rooms, pubs, church, community hall, shop window, telephone boxes, bridge, car parks, parks, wood, beach, and boat. Such locations are used as stopping points to platform art work as well as eat/drink and perhaps go to the toilet!
Within the workshops students explore creative ways to keep the energy and motivation of their audience high. The tendency for audience members to become settled in one area introduces new creative challenge for the students.
'Transitional acts' that
draw their audience from one location to the next are produced. These acts have included - treasure trails, marching bands, audio walks, chalked messages, walk by installations, theatre groups, string, fire alarms and jogging bunnies.
All students are encouraged to exhibit or perform and platform artists from other faculties within the university as well as externally. Collective organisational skills are developed with in this
process, providing the student with invaluable experience for their
own degree shows and work produced beyond.
Post the debut event and workshops students have continued to produce events successfully and self sufficiently.
