Now
Now came to Utrophia having come to see Limn play at the 291 Gallery.
A demo was handed over to Mike Smoughton who was dj'ing that night and when we finally listened to the demo at the Engine House we collectively said 'Yes please'.
We had them play down at the 291 Gallery and thus was initiated a long term love affair with the band.
Here's what we wrote about them in them early days...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'catchy, comely, grooving, experimental, temperamental, spontaneous, contemporary, inventive, pragmatic, exotic, singular, feline, bountiful, excitable, serendipitous, nutritious, mercurial, melodious, harmonious'
now first played utrophia's january 291 gallery event with a set that was truly epic, incorporating a range of sounds, with glorious sweeping melodies, incredible rhythms (with a host of percussive instruments offered to the audience to join in on their track 'abominatrix').
from there on in now have played an integral part in the utrophia live music program, playing at utrophia's yearly cwm festivals, setting a standard at the first cwm with all encompassing euphoric, tribal group improv sessions in the barn. they have played and practiced at the project space and appear on compilations 02, 03 and 04.
we love them
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And it's true...
Now's performance at the first CWM festival was one of the most awe inspiring things to ever hit. The crowd roared like a fire breathing dragon.
They have re-arranged and shifted many times yet remained true to the music and an amazing spirit.
